Glass Manufacturing

Exploiting and manufacturing of raw material for glass (glass sand and Dolomite) available in several locations in the Republic of Yemen.  In Habban Area of Shabwa Governorate, detailed geological and mining studies have been carried out for  Dolomite and other material which go into the manufacturing of glass in Abyan Governorate, neighboring the Governorate of Shabwa.  Such studies confirm the feasibility of these materials to be used in the manufacturing of plate glass and bottling glass after some refinement.

A technical and economic feasibility study was carried out for glass manufacturing based on these materials to meet the needs of local consumption and export as well.

Silica sand is available in large quantities in the governorates of Taiz and Sa'ada  -but less so in other governorates.

Cement Manufacturing

Cement consumption in any society is an economic indicator  associated with the level of national and domestic income. With the increase in urban growth and infrastructure projects, the cement industry in Yemen, since its establishment in 1973, has received ample governmental support.  Three cement plants have been established:  Bajil Cement Plant, Amran Cement Plant and Al-Barh Cement Plant, in addition to other plants associated with the private sector.  Although these plants are already producing more than their designed capacities, they still do not meet the demands of the local market.  Further, the rest of the demands are being provided for through overseas imports. Needless to say that there is abundance of primary raw materials required by the cement manufacturing. These are available in economic quantities and in good quality that should allow for the establishment of several cement plants.   Studies indicate that the average rate of growth of demand for cement in Yemen exceeds 11% per annum.  Therefore, the coverage of local demand is decreasing and the share of cement imports is in the increase This means that there is a growing need for this commodity in the domestic market and also overseas.

Fish Manufacturing and Canning

This project aims to manufacture and can all kinds of different fish and other marine biology, such as:  Tuna, salmons (trout),  sardines, chub mackerel, etc. and the production of empty cans.

Yemeni seas are characterized by  the abundance of many kinds of tuna, salmon (trout), sardines and Chub Mackerel, and in large quantities especially in the Arabian Sea.  The peak season of their availability is in the months of October – December of each year. Possibility of setting up several projects in the different coasts based on the type and density of fish desired for investment.

Processing and canning of tuna, salmon, sardines, chuck mackerel, etc, in addition to the production of empty cans.

Shall be estimated in accordance with the available means of investor and in light of feasibility studies.

Manufacturing of Fishing Boats

This project aims to establish factories for the production of improved fishing vessels of high technical specifications, using fiberglass, steel or aluminum.  These boats will be equipped with modern fishing tools and storage room for products to enhance the maintenance of quality and to contribute to the realization of food security.  This field is still open for investment, especially as the number of those engaged in traditional fishing  is more than 77,581 Fishing Boat fishermen, who are still using 21,492 traditional fishing boats.  The available factories presently producing this type of fiberglass boats are eight in number. They are owned by the private sector and distributed in three governorates, four of which are in Hadhramaut Governorate, one in Al-Mahara Governorate, two in Aden Governorate and one in Taiz Governorate.  Demand is still very high, especially for the improved boats; it is necessary for the maintenance of high international quality standards as well as for the production of wooden boats.  The number of different types and forms of fishing boats manufactured for different purposes amounts to 30 types.  Expected annual production capacity of one factory ranges between 500 and 1,000 boats made of fiberglass.

Project may be established in any of the coastal governorates (Al-Mukalla, Aden, Abyan, Al-Mahara, and Hodeida).  Hodeida is the preferred governorate for setting up the project.
